Madelyn Churchill

Madelyn Churchill (b. 2003) is an American painter based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She is a 2026 graduate from the University of Minnesota, where she received her Bachelor of Fine Arts. Through self-portraiture, Churchill's paintings discuss topics of land, identity, and acceptance. Churchill is deeply inspired by her past, present, and future experiences as an Anishinaabe woman within the woodlands of Minnesota in hopes of healing her wounds of disconnection. While Churchill is hopeful for a better future for her people. Churchill hopes to help others feel recognized through her Indigenous experiences.
At the end of her time at the University of Minnesota, Churchill co-curated and exhibited in her BFA Senior Thesis show in May 2026. She has shown in other spaces such as SooVAC and the Cube Gallery. Churchill has been honored with working with the University of Minnesota Assistant Professor, Mathew Zefeldt as a Studio Assistant. For post-grad, Churchill continues to explore her interests as a practicing painter, preparing her MFA application portfolio; she has also taken on the role of Curatorial Intern under the supervision of Dr. Kendra Greendeer, the Ihlenfeld Curator of Collaborative and Community Exhibitions at the Weisman Art Museum. She has also continued to serve in a research and archival role alongside Assistant Professor Leslie Barlow for a curatorial project, Us, Becoming, set for the Weisman Art Museum in 2027.
